Our Prophet (saw) of course hated Shirk, but yet he never hated Abu Talib (his uncle), even though he was a non-muslim i.e. not following onto the footsteps of One True God, Allah.
We should always believe that one day inshaAllah one day the non-muslims you are dealing with will become Muslims because of Allah's Supreme Grace.
